Wise County Citizens And My Appy People.

Perhaps the citizens of Appalachia, St Paul, and Pound should declare their towns as independent cities and purchase the schools from the county.

Don't get me wrong...I got A's in almost every class in high school...was 6th in my class...i'm just saying i didn't learn anything...i had trouble in some of my undergrad because i wasn't prepared well enough in high school.

I have looked at myself....and i know what i need to do...i'm a yankee man...this is not a stab at you...so don't take it personal...this is a stab at what this county stands for....and i haven't been able to pinpoint it yet....but i know it's not for the benefit of the people...

a little change never hurt anyone...for too long anyway...any blamed fool can look at the school system here and say, "something has to be done" and when a man wants to change it...granted, he went about it in the wrong way...he's shut down...because people want to be DAWGS or BLUE KNIGHTS or whatever for the rest of their lives...i've said it before and i'll say it again...i think that if all someone has to worry about is whether or not their alma mater is going to be shut down, they've got problems....

i just don't understand it?????? i've talked to a few of my students and all they were worried about was having to go to school with new people and sports...kids are missing the whole idea of high school...education...it's not a social life, or sports...it's getting a high quality education, which no one in this county is receiving....why do you think only 2 or so percent go to school out of this area??????? because their SAT scores are lower, they don't have enough AP classes on their transcripts, and they don't know how to write a letter of intent....

Something's wrong. Teachers aren't doing their jobs...teaching...they're teaching kids to memorize for a stupid test...those bloody SOL's...the worst thing that could happen to public education in Virginia....

Teachers should have to go through evaluations as well...there are teachers in these schools who couldn't even be a pimple on a teachers butt....yeah, they may have went to school for it, but you've got to know what you're doing and how to relay that to kids...and some teachers i've observed or had, don't know how to do it

Maybe we should. You need a reality check your what 9-10 yrs out of school at Twins Springs. Yet you have all the answers. Well im 30 yrs out of school and i don't. You know sometimes, it gets to the point where some get old and say what they want. And you have others still wet behind the ears.
I dont' know where to put you. You have it all figured out. Even with your Cumberland Fourm thing. Yet you tell some on this board their to stupid to figure it out.
Maybe your to intelligent for us. So take your well you know to TS. Maybe it will drop better.
As as Wise County. If you dont' like it. Move. Will it hurt anyone's feelings. I doubt it.

I agree with you Jack on many things you say. And that is what is wrong with the system.

We need better personnel. We need a lot. But needing it and affording it is one thing.

We all got screwed in this last round. I myself was expecting 3 new state of the art schools. What did we get. Basically a plan flawed.

To me it was what one man wanted. He wanted out and he seen a way to make it work for himself. And he did just that. Who lost? The Children he claimed he cared about. And was looking out for.

Were not that far off. And sometimes i say things to grab peoples attention. We need change but at what cost. We have had kids live in terror the last 4-5 yrs. Because they never know what to expect.

How do you answer that to a kid 14 or 17 yrs old?

Then you yourself admit you are leaving here after you get your education for greener pastures. What does that tell others.

Get your education and get out. Right now i can't blame you honestly. We have no jobs to offer. And yet another question. Why?

You may have the years, but you lack the wisdom.
You insult people and expect them to come to your forum? And i will say yes your forum. As i was told it's your baby or your forum as you pay for it?
I do read though and TS people are all over it with trash, yet i never see your input? But you add it here? You don't think that is odd?

I don't agree with you on "that's what one man wanted." I think the whole school board wanted it...but the way Basham went about it...was wrong...but you have not seen the last of consolidation...this was a carefully constructed plan by the school board to get it out on the map...ppl. don't know what goes on behind closed doors...consolidation will happen...with 3 new schools within the next 5 years...they've just got to find the land....

why are kids living in terror not knowing what to expect? i would say that they're just worried that someone is going to take thier spot on the football team...

I agree...get your education and get the hell out of dodge...

Well many here feel the same. Yet you got into this topic how? You basically live in Wise County because you work here. Yet i think the nick and the forum say enough.
Your here because of work. Other than that would you really care? I think your last reply says it all.

I got here how? I'm a citizen of Wise Co. and a taxpayer.

That qualifies me to have a say in things. If you don't think so, perhaps you should just take your ball and go home.
